South Asian region workshop

 Third day (September 23, 2013) of  my  South Asian region workshop on “Social Accountability & Community Monitoring in Health”emphasis was on learning from experiences. Dr Abhay Shukla began the day with an overview of the experiences of social accountability. He emphasized on the need for expanding democracy in the health system by creating forums for direct democracy, expanding representative roles, reactivating and reclaiming representative democracy and activating health systems accountability. Later in the day Ms Jashodhara Dasgupta facilitated the session on Other Methods of Community Monitoring, where community monitoring initiatives undertaken by four organisations were shared by representatives from among the participants. The last session of the day was a show and tell session titled Community Monitoring Café. Here the participants displayed and communicated the various community based monitoring activities that they have been involved in.
